Conducting the Odense Symphony Orchestra while playing the Mozart pieces flawlessly is a huge task for the contestants at the 2016 Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition.
“There were so many things going on in my head during my performance now. I was thinking: Oh, now the horn comes, now the oboe comes, and now the second violin is coming! All these things got mixed in my head!” Ji Yoon Lee told presenter Rie Koch just after she came off the platform.
But the orchestra helped Ji Yoon Lee to feel more secure despite her having so much to keep track of:
“I had a lot of fun. And everyone was so supportive, and everyone was smiling in the orchestra. Especially the really pretty oboe player. She always smiled at me whenever I looked at her and it made me really secure.”
